What does the work actually cost?

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In July 2018 a Power Salesman stopped by the house in a suburb of Houston to provide an estimate on my roof. He had already calculated my roof area by utilizing Google Earth, and his calculation was correct, as I had previously calculated the area, which was right at 3,000 SF of roof area or 30 squares. He went through his long, over 30 minutes, presentation on his IPad showing me how the new roof would be installed, and how they have the best details, and I will never have issues with my roof. I’m an architect, and I’ve detailed a roof or two in my day, and the details proposed by Power are very good, and if installed according to the details one should have no, or vertually no issues with the roof. So, now came his big unveiling of the price. Good thing I was sitting down. He presses a few buttons on his device and turns the screen to face me, and in bold numbers is displayed, $28,300!!! Please note that a really good roof in Houston for a house the size of mine will run as low as $8,000 up to $12,000. I asked him, “How did you arrive at that number?” He was surprised by my question, and I had to ask it again. He told me that he’s never had anyone ask him that before, and why I was asking. I said, “Because I want to see what the actual cost of the job is; what will it cost to install that roof (pointing to his device) on my house”. He was still puzzled by my line of questioning. I asked him to provide a written cost sheet listing every material that will be installed on the roof and the unit price for each material. I asked him to do the same for the labor; list every man you will have on the job, how much each man is paid per hour and how many hours each man will be on the job. He shifted in his chair, and again asked why I would want that information. I said because when you total up all material and labor involved your total will be around $6,000. I said I realize there’s overhead, sales people to pay and just the general cost of doing business, so I said let’s create the worksheet and once we get a total I will add 50% to that total and that’s the amount we will agree on. He refused my offer. He stated, “What, do you think our margin is too high”. I said yes, extremely high. He proceeded to tell me that if I went to the local lumber yard I would pay considerably more than they do because they get huge discounts on materials. I said, OK, how much would you charge to deck the roof with half inch CDX plywood. He responded that they charge $3.25/Sf. So, a 3,000 Sf roof would be $9,750. That’s just for the decking; no roof yet. I said you just proved my point that your margin is extremely high. He said why? I explained to him that if I buy the plywood at the lumber yard each sheet will be approximately $22.00 per sheet. My roof will take about 100 sheets when you factor in waste. So, material cost is $2,200. I said double it for labor and you’re at $4,400. I said add another $1,000 for labor and you’re still almost twice what the actual cost of the work is. This was priceless, he grabbed his calculator and ran through the numbers again....and again, only to get the same result as I. I told him I never pay sticker price for a car.....why would I pay it for a roof. I’m convinced Power has a quality roof system, and I would strongly suggest you follow their installation details. That being said, their product is way over priced. No matter what you’re getting a quote for, you should always try to find out what the actual cost of the work is. You can then negotiate from there.

Horrible- poor quality

The windows they installed are so low quality that I now need to hire another company to replace them. The siding was installed by a crew who had never done siding before and had to be taken off and reinstalled. We have had many communications with the company as they claim they were trying to fix the issues. My husband had to take time off from work and babysitting the second crew. Completely horrible experience and will not recommend to anyone.

Dissappointed

A very nice young man came to our door one very cold windy afternoon. He said they were doing work in our neighborhood and asked if a representative could come and tell us about some of the home improvements they had to offer.

I figured this guy is going door to door in 20 degree weather I'd give him a chance. He set up an appointment for the next day. The next day a representative came right on time. We told him up front that we were not purchasing anything.

He told us he was there just to give us a FREE idea of what improvements might cost. Go ahead 2.5 hours. We told him this is getting a little long and we want to eat our supper. He said if we wanted him to leave just tell him.

My husband said to him you can leave now and come back another time if you want. He told us he could only come one time. So my husband told him just to leave. His attitude changed from-extremely nice and friendly to very pissy, looked at us and said "you mean I've wasted my time, you could have bought something".

We told him just to get out.

So sorry, I'm going to relate this to my neighbors to cancel and appointments they have with this company. They are not as nice as their representatives claim to be.

"Doing some work in the area." That's a scripted line their door-to-door guys use.

May 2nd 2019, review of installation w homeowner. Mentioned to PM that caulking at 3 windows was not acceptable. Above comment is not an acceptable reply to a customer. Landscape damage and tree branch removal by installation crew confirmed after noticed by homeowner. Existing exterior wood trim that was defective was noted by crew during install. Hoping to resolve through customer service line.

Don't get the "free" estimate!

We had a nice young lady come to our door asking if we would like a free window estimate. Although I know we need new windows, I told her that at this time we were not in a position to purchase windows. She explained that the free estimate would be just a way to lock in the price, so I booked an estimate appointment. The lady that came out seemed nice enough however the presentation just kept going on and on...We explained over and over that we were not buying windows immediately and she just kept going. As this was a work night I thought the demonstration may take an hour to an hour and a half she was still there 3 1/2 hours later we practically had to kick her out. It was 10:45 pm before she left my house. It was very high pressure at the end with all these special discounts only if we purchased them today well even if I was thinking of buying I wouldn't as it was so late and I was shut down. Cannot recommend this company.

Just had one of their sales reps here. I couldn't get him to shut up.

The only error in your review is using the adjective "nice" to describe these people. It's all an act and they are nothing more than high-pressure SALESpeople who know exactly how to appear "nice" to rope you in to both setting the initial appointment to NOT leaving your house once they're there.

Just wait, you will now be subjected to daily, endless phone calls from them. :-(

Guest

As the homeowner, you have the right and the power to kick out anyone at anytime. I would never have let it go on that long.

Maybe you have to threaten these types. Might say something like: Do I really have to get my little friend involved here? If they don't take the hint, tell them out right to get the *** out. Still won't leave?

Produce your little friend. Then repeat the get out part again, softly.

Overwhelmed

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Sad I am stressing and completely overwhelmed. I scheduled in early February to have windows installed and due to loss of employment we are re-locating and can't afford the installation that is scheduled in late May. I tried calling to explain and was told that i would still have the bill. I am to the point that i rather have a lawyer because Power is not offering any other solutions but to pay the bill in which the windows have not been installed yet! I called over 30 days in advance! This has created such a stress in addition to relocating, trying to find employment and having the feeling of drowning in debt for services i haven't received! Please help! Wtf

Scammed my elderly mother.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Sold my 90 year old mother vinyl siding and a new roof, cost of siding 27,000, cost of roof 24,000 on a 2400 sf one story ranch box. Came down $5 when she said she couldn't afford the $29,000 roof estimate (told her they'd throw in the 2 skylight replacements for free). Needless to say, she was careful not to tell me until she had signed the contracts and had the work done (I live out of state). She had to take out a home equity loan to pay. This is an outrageous amount to money for a 2,400 sf house that is essentially a box AND 20% of the house is brick so it needed even less siding than a typical 2,400 sf house. I'm considering filing a complaint with the Attorney General. As far as I'm concerned this is elder abuse.

No customer CARE...period!

I submit these pictures of the work done on my home by the above company. I told the crew to stop work and replace the wet warped wood with dry suitable lumber.

All pictures of damage done to my home was done by the company. The crew ignored my wishes and continued and finished the job. I wont go into details.

Take a very close look at these pictures before you quickly sign a contract that will save you lots of money. If you get your 'free estimate' you will know what im talking about.

I am the owner of the warped wood roof above. I forgot to mention how in the process of trying to flatten the boards, workers jumped up and down on it.

The broke a ceiling beam. Foreman told me he was heading out to replace it with a new beam.

He left. Later I found that he did not replace the beam but nailed 2 by 4s to each side of the beam.

I'm very happy to see that my pictures and complaints have been helpful and I hope it continues. I have gone to the BBB for help.

I understand there to be quite a long list of very unsatisfied customers who hired The PHRG. If I could afford to hire a Lawyer I would have taken that route.

Please People... Beware!

Scam!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After a zillion phone calls to set up an appointment at my home they called and confirmed and asked if I was willing to take credit with them for the job! I said NO I pay cash, two minutes later they called and cancelled the appointment and said they were overbooked, and would call back to reschedule, which of course they never did! What a scam they are running!

Free Estimate will cost hours of your life

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We need to replace the ancient windows on our home and were curious enough to make an appointment to get a quote. The salesperson arrived at 4:30 and leisurely proceeded to 1) chat about our family 2) sell us on the merits of Power in a way that made me fear we were about to get a mult-level marketing pitch 3) measure, test and inspect every window in our house 4) haul in all sorts of samples 5) spend forever calculating a quote 6) offer replace the windows on our 1600 sq ft house for a mere $18,000 dollars 7) use his best car dealership closing tactics changing the quote multiplr times 8) and finally leaving 3.5 hrs later but promising to contact us later. Please don’t. You didn’t bat an eye as I had to work around you to make my baby and preschooler dinner. You pestered my husband when he is normally helping our children with baths and reading stories. You seemed to not understand that we would never ever pay almost 20,000 for windows because that would be a disastrous financial choice for our family. We simply don’t have time for any company that has so little regard for our family.

I am about to contact the company to complain about this service. I will return a later comment, pending the outcome of our discussion.

Why not just say "Get our of my house?" Instead of berating a salesman who probably also has children, just be curt and say LEAVE my house. It is up to the homeowner to escort the guest out the door.

I had a similar experience and we did ask him nicely to leave several times and hr would not lrave until I literally walked him out of my house and got in my car to leave. Now he calls me several times a day.

It was like inviting in a vampire.

The only reason I haven't permanently blocked his number is so I can prank call him someday. Lol.

Not what it Seems

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I was introduced to Power Home Remodeling while shopping at BJs. I purchased new living room windows and front entry door with a digital lock. The first issue I had was they had to return to properly chalk the window on the outside. Then on the inside around the trim at the top of the window. The windows now have an ugly film on them that doesn't seem to wash off. Lastly, I have had several issues with the digital door lock. I can not get in or out of the door because the lock is constantly jamming. You would think that for the price you're charged you would not get these inferior products. Although they accommodate you if you ever need servicing it is beginning to be a pain in the you know what. I am very disappointed.

Strange cold-call

A peculiar young man came to my home mid-day while my children were home from school on a snow day. He identified himself by his first name and company hat (pointing to the hat) "I'm with Power". He was apparently walking because there was no company vehicle. He wanted me to arrange a meeting with my wife to set up a building project. I informed him we would not be doing any projects at this time. He left again on foot. Very Shady.

Power Home Remodeling Group - Me thinks not!

Well, 2:10 sales call. Didn't want to do this, but Sam's Club was sponsoring these guys. They didn't show for one appt, but I thought it would be OK to have them out anyway since I needed 2 windows before I move.

Price dropped twice before they left. He came with a young woman :in training" I guess and she couldn't stop chewing her gum or replying to texts from her friends while sitting on my sofa.

After reading these reviews I'm glad I didn't sign anything.

Attacked is his business card. No local #. No email address. No nothing. Looked on LinkedIn and he doesn't even have a listing of his existence on planet earth. Monkeys!

Ask for a business card and credentials up-front. Then you won't feel so bad.

The phone numbers and ext. Numbers are absolutely worthless.

There is no way to speak to your salesman or job supervisor once the job has begun. They went through our bathroom cabinets. The head of the job forgot how to speak English when I complained about the wet warped plywood 'yes... plywood' they put on my roof.

They broke a beam and went to Lowes to get a replacement. What they did was nail two by fours to each side of the busted beam. They sawed through, dented and bent the trim on my home. Forget your lifetime warranty.

My roof is warped. The nails are popping up from them forcing down the warped wood. It refuses to stay down. Scott was their salesman.

Don't let him on your property. I now have no soliciting and no trespassing signs up. They are worthless.

At least once a week some idiot knocks on my door. I am no longer polite.
