I have never taken felt compelled to write a review until my experience last night. On Thursday, a young man comes to our door. " I'm with Power Home Remodeling Group. We are working down the street. Do you want a free estimate on your roof?' Foolishly, I accept and set up an appointment the next day. Derrick show up on time.

Why this is a scam, high pressure sales job.

1) Derrick took 3 hours to complete the estimate. He wanted to make sure we felt obligated to accept his offer since he spent so much time with us.

2) Time Pressure. In order to get the discount, we needed to accept the offer this first visit.

3) Sense of Urgency. He said that our roof is in danger of falling in this winter, especially over the room of our daughter. Our roof is old, but not that old.

4) He said he would give us a discount if Power Group could take before and after pictures of our house for their sales presentations He "checked" his computer and then pressured us into taking a slightly lower estimate.

5) After that did convince us, he said he could give us a discount if we participated in a survey after the work was completed. He then "checked" his computer again and offered us a lower price.

6) None of these discounts ended up on the good for one year estimate he left with us at our house. In fact, he did not even put our name or house address on the "estimate": It did not itemize any of the costs.

7) He said a normal loan rate would be 25 - 40% If we signed up today, he could offer a 9% no money down financing.

8) After my wife told him he needed to leave, he quickly wrote his name on the estimate (we wanted to know), but no phone number and he quickly left.

This is a scam. Do not let them in your house. I am still mad a day later that he manipulated me into leaving him waste a whole evening. At one point, I thought maybe we should get this done, it is only $299 a month and what if the roof does fall in??? Luckily, I snapped out of it when my wife looked up other reviews on yelp - most told the same story of a high pressure sales pitch.

I had the same experience, pretty much word for word, blow by blow. It's very predatory.

Guy knocked on my door, I said okay, come give me a quote, sales guy came the next day and then everything you all wrote was repeated here. I hadn't even had time to go look them up between the appointment setting and they sales rep arriving, and that's part of the tactic, I guess. I succeeded in saying no, because the work was not something I planned to do now, just wanted to find out cost of replacing a big window that needs it. But I was torn about it after he left.

Now I'm not!! Thanks to everyone who has posted their experiences here, SO helpful.

Thank you, thank you for this post. After a three hours of sitting through an almost identical pitch I got pretty angry when the 'two' sales guys pressured me with the buy it now at a $5K difference tomorrow pressure.

I then googled for complaints and found your post. I would add on the front end their apparent interest too move into my neighborhood before launching into the drawn out pitch. The red flags started to go up when they looked at my very high roof from across the street and told me it had leaks and compromised flashing. They said later that they were not insured to climb up a ladder.

(I should have stopped them when they didn't come with a ladder prepared to look at the roof). They then (laughable now) climbed up a ladder into my attic with cell phones for lights and then proceeded to show me pictures of water damage.

But there is none. They would not give cell phones and only first names and got very nervous when I picked up and made a copy of their pay now or pay tomorrow prices.

3 hours

Had to ask the guy to leave at 10 pm. There was no end in sight.

Used the same winter weather tactic as in the other review

Told us that a guy who put off a window leak repair then had a fire which killed his child.

Told us that his friends fraternity house burned down because landlord put off repairs.

Quote was 38,000 fr roof, gutters and minimal insulation. If you are willing to waste 3 or more hours then eat them in.

I had the same experience, this horrible company needs to be shut down before they get the chance to steal any more elderly peoples life savings. They should be ashamed.
